  • Cheshire Independent Living Awareness Day

    Hello there...

Friday saw the second Cheshire Independent Living Awareness Day and ProACT, Open2Autism and STAPLLE would just like to say a big thank you to the organisers for a fantastic and exceptionally well organised event. The afternoon was really busy, there were three of us manning the stall and there was a constant stream of people coming through all day. I barely had a chance to leave the stall, but I did find time to have a chat with the team from Orkidideas and had a look at their TomTag communication system...well worth a look.

I also had a chance to speak to the guys from Manchester Airport who are doing some great work for people with autism, easing their way through the sometimes stressful and long process of boarding the aircraft. They have a really useful booklet for each of the three terminals guiding the individual through with photos and simple text. They also use a subtle wristband system to prevent queueing and unnecessary checks. Great work...

Must not forget the signing choir for the deaf who were brilliant. All in all a great day and we will be booking our stall for next year as soon as possible.
